2012-13 freshmen class will be largest in three years
And the winners are ..... nearly three-dozen area students.
Tech Valley High School officials recently conducted a lottery for students seeking a spot in the freshman class next fall. The regional public high school chose 33 students from a pool of candidates based in home school districts that indicated a willingness to send them to TVHS.
The students hail from 16 school districts, including Guilderland, Wynantskill, Shenendehowa, Menands, Schoharie and Cobleskill-Richmondville.
If all 33 students attend TVHS it will be the largest incoming class at the school since 2008, Principal Dan Liebert said. In 2011, the school welcomed 28 freshmen, the same number as entered the school the year before. In 2009, 32 freshmen joined the TVHS community.
Home school district officials were alerted to the selection of their students and were asked to notify the students last week. TVHS is subsequently contacting the students and their families.
"Tech Valley gives the districts the opportunity to share the good news with the students first," said counselor Dean Walker.
Orientation for the new students is scheduled for
May 19.
