BOCES employees to present at international conference

NERIC Connect service finds a global audience

Carl Strang and Ira GoldsteinInformation about the Northeastern Regional Information Center's "NERIC Connect" service will reach a worldwide audience at the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV), taking place Oct. 22 through 25 in Albany.

ICEGOV is a conference that brings together academics, government officials and other professionals from across the globe to discuss how technology can transform relationships between government and business, citizens and civil society, according to the conference's website. The conference aims to spotlight innovative and original technology applications that make these relationships more efficient and effective.

Carl Strang, BOCES deputy district superintendent and chief academic officer, and Ira Goldstein, NERIC's managing coordinator of emerging technologies, collaborated on a white paper that details the evolution of NERIC Connect (a service exclusively developed and offered by NERIC), from the pilot phase to its initial implementation. Strang and Goldstein submitted the white paper to ICEGOV's program committee as a work-in-progress paper discussing how NERIC Connect is a "government to employee application" that helps school district employees better process and analyze crucial student information for better informed classroom instruction.

The paper received positive feedback and was accepted by the committee. This means that anyone, anywhere in the world, doing academic research on the topic of technology and government relations will be able to access Strang and Goldstein's white paper.

"For future researchers and implementers, our white paper will detail NERIC Connect as an approach to using technology for better government-employee relations that we've found successful," Strang said. "We're hoping to move the state of the art forward."
