A tribute to our Special Education graduates...

The following students will complete their studies with the Special Education Division this June. We’d like to extend congratulations to each of them on this accomplishment and wish them well in their future studies and endeavors. Recognition is also due to the graduates’ families, friends, classmates and teachers for their support, encouragement and teamwork at BOCES and in local school districts.

Chris Ballester

This June, Chris graduated with from the Social Emotional Development (SEII) program taught by Kathy Paasch at Niskayuna High School. His home district is Scotia-Glenville.

 

Anthony Baris

Anthony BarisThis June, Tony graduated from the Fundamental Specialized Instruction (FSI)/ College-based Transition Experience taught by George Lorang at The College of St. Rose. His home district is Troy. During his time in the program, Tony had experiences working at the local CVS drugstore and Price Chopper supermarket. He also worked with the campus paper recycling project. In addition, Tony completed modified coursework in college classes such as Fundamentals of Science, and Infant, Toddler & Preschool Education. Tony now plan join the Living Resources' program affiliated with the College of St. Rose.

 

Tomasita Bennett

This June, Tomasita graduated from the Skills Development (SDII) program taught by Terri Martucci at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Her home district is Schenectady. Tomasita now plans to pursue full-time employment.

Joshua Bersch

This June, Josh graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Terry Johnson-Valentino at Maywood High School. His home district is Albany. Josh will now pursue a career in welding.

Brian Brown

This June, Brian graduated with a General Equivalency diploma from the Life Employment Applications Program (LEAP) program taught by Meg Carrick at the Colonie Community Center. His home district is Schalmont. Brain now plans to pursue full-time employment.

Quinn Burch

Quinn BurchThis June, Quinn graduated with a Regents diploma from the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) program taught by Christina Loukides at Guilderland High School. Her home district is Mohonasen. Quinn plans to attend College of St. Rose in the fall of 2009.

 

 

Richard Cheslow

Richard CheslowThis June, Ricky graduated from the Comprehensive Development Skills (CDS) program taught by Dan Darpino at Shenendehowa High School West. His home district is Guilderland. Ricky now plans to attend the Schenectady ARC/ Princetown Ridge Day Treatment Center.

 

Francis Colacino

Francis ColacinoThis June, Jamie graduated with a Regents diploma from the Performance Expectancy Preparation (PEP) program taught by Anne O'Brien-Teta at Mohonasen High School. His home district is Schenectady. Jamie plans to attend Schenectady County Community College in the fall of 2009 and study Emergency Management.

 

Matt Dawson

Matt DawsonThis June, Matt graduated with a Regents diploma from the Performance Expectancy Preparation (PEP) program taught by Anne O'Brien-Teta at Mohonasen High School. His home district is Guilderland. Matt plans to attend Schenectady County Community College in the fall of 2009 and study culinary arts.

 

Garrett Day

This June, Garrett graduated with a local/Regents diploma from the Social Emotional Development (SE) program taught by Robin Gibelius at Niskayuna High School. His home district is Shenedehowa. Matt plans to work full-time and take classes at Hudson Valley Community College.

Kathleen Diemer

This June, Kathleen graduated from the Comprehensive Development Skills (CDS) program taught by Nan Ciarlone at Scotia High School. Her home district is Schenectady.

Spencer Dohn

This June, Spencer graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Thomas McTernan at Colonie Community Center. His home district is East Greenbush. Spencer is now looking for full-time work and plans to take classes at Hudson Valley Community College in the future.

Dayton Donnelly

This June, Dayton graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Peter Riley at Maywood High School. His home district is Ballston Spa.

James Max Ebert

James EbertThis June, Max graduated with an Advanced Regents diploma from the Deaf/Hard of Hearning (D/HH) program taught by Christina Loukides at Guilderland High School. His home district is Averill Park. Max has continually impressed his teachers with his high grades, his positive class participation and his sense of humor. He plans to attend MacDaniel College in Maryland in the fall of 2009.

 

Jonathan Fitzsimmons

Jonathan Fitzsimmons This June, Jonathan graduated from the Fundamental Specialized Instruction (FSI)/College-based Transition Experience taught by George Lorang at the College of St. Rose. His home district is Waterford/Halfmoon. During his time in the program, Jonathan had experiences working in the campus dining hall, Graduate Office and at the local Price Chopper supermarket. He also worked with the campus paper recycling project. In addition, Jonathan completed modified coursework in college classes such as Fundamentals of Science, Curriculum & Instruction for Pupils with Severe Disabilities and First Aid/CPR. Jonathan now plan to be involved with Saratoga Bridges.

Sydney Fluster

Sydney FlusterThis June, Sydney graduated with a Regents diploma from the Performance Expectancy Preparation (PEP) program taught by Anne O'Brien-Teta at Mohonasen High School. Her home district is Bethlehem. Sydney plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College in the fall of 2009 and study Early Childhood Education.

Amber Fredette

Amber FredetteThis June, Amber graduated from the Integrated Vocational/Educational Skills and Transition (INVEST) program taught by Holly Gilbert at the Colonie Community Center. Her home district is Watervliet. During her time in the INVEST program, Amber had many work experiences at local business such as the Quality Inn, Dunkin' Donuts,  Joann Fabrics and the BOCES Maywood School. Her favorite work experiences were at The Christmas Tree Shop and Price Chopper supermarket where she where she worked hard at keeping the store organized and re-shelving merchandise. Amber will now attend The Center for Disability Services day habilitation and volunteer program.

Bryan Gannon

Brian GannonThis June, Bryan graduated from the Life Employment Applications Program (LEAP) program taught by Meg Carrick at the Colonie Community Center. His home district is Schenectady. Bryan now plans to attend Schenectady Community College and study culinary arts.

Ariel Gerhard

Ariel GerhardThis June, Ariel graduated from the Social Emotional Development (SEII)/ Rebound program taught by Cathy Rickert at the Career Center at Steinmetz in the Schenectady school district. Her home district is Schoharie Central. Ariel now plans seek employment.

 

Jessica Glass

This June, Jessica graduated from the Severe Social Emotional/Pathways (SSE) program taught by John Fitzpatrick. Her home district is Guilderland.

Michael Hassell

This June, Michael graduated from the Integrated Vocational/Educational Skills and Transition (INVEST) program taught by Holly Gilbert at the Colonie Community Center. His home district is Mohonasen. During his time in the INVEST program, Michael had many work experiences at local business such as Price Chopper supermarket, CVS drugstore, the Christmas Tree Shop and Garcia's restaurant. His favorite work experiences were at Joann Fabrics where he unpacked merchandise and crushed used boxes and the BOCES Maywood School where he helped with basic cleaning. Michael will now attend the Schenectady ARC Maple Ridge day habilitation and volunteer program.

Allen Thomas Howard

Allen HowardThis June, Allen graduated from the Fundamental Specialized Instruction (FSI)/ College-based Transition Experience taught by George Lorang at the College of St. Rose. His home district is Troy. During his time in the program, Allen had experiences working in the dining hall, the college library's Inter-Library Loan Office and the education office. He also worked with the campus paper recycling project. Allen has also had job experiences through Rensselaer County ARC that included the cafeteria at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), the Albany Public Library and a local day care center. In addition, Allen completed modified coursework in college classes such as Curriculum & Instruction for Pupils with Severe Disabilities, Introduction to Mass Media, Literacy & Literature for Young Children, and Art & Learning. Allen now hopes to secure a job with New York State.

Joshua Jones

This June, Josh graduated from the Interdisciplinary Skills Program (ISP) taught by Andy Lockwood at Bethlehem High School. His home district is Schenectady. Josh also participated with the building trades program at the BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE).  He now plans to pursue a career in this field.

Lindsey Kendle

Linsey KendleThis June, Lindsey graduated from the Intensive Comprehensive Developmental Skills (ICDSII) program taught by Jessica Walthers at Page Avenue School in Cohoes. Her home district is Mohonasen.

James Kownack

James KownackThis June, James graduated with a Regents diploma from the Social Emotional (SEII) program taught by Micki Agresta at Mohonasen High School. His home district is Scotia/Glenville. James currently works at Sears in its auto garage and provides customer service for a local energy company. He now plans to work full- time.

Jennifer Mahonski

Jennifer MahonskiThis June, Jenna graduated from the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) program taught by Christina Loukides at Guilderland High School. Her home district is South Colonie. While at BOCES, Jenna also studied business and computers at the Career and Technical School (CTE). Jenna now plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and expand her business/computer skills through college coursework.

Vincent Meyer

Vincent MeyerThis June, Vincent graduated from the Integrated Vocational/Educational Skills and Transition (INVEST) program taught by Holly Gilbert at the Colonie Community Center. His home district is Middleburgh. During his time in the INVEST program, Vincent had many work experiences at local business such as Price Chopper supermarket, the Christmas Tree Shop and Garcia's restaurant. His favorite work experiences were at Boscov's department store where he worked hard at unpacking merchandise and the Quality Inn hotel where he assisted housekeepers. Vincent will now attend the Schoharie ARC Middleburg Day Habilitation program.

Antonio Milone

This June, Antonio graduated from the Skills Development (SDII) program taught by Terri Martucci at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. His home district is Guilderland. While in the BOCES program, Antonio also attended the Career and Technical School (CTE). Antonio now plans to pursue full-time employment. 

Kristen Mitchell

This June, Kristen graduated from the Comprehensive Development Skills (CDS) program taught by Nan Ciarlone at Scotia High School. Her home district is Albany.

Carly Mosall

This June, Carly graduated from the Life Employment Applications Program (LEAP) program taught by Meg Carrick at the Colonie Community Center. Her home district is Guilderland.

Maria Nabazira

This June, Maria graduated from the Integrated Vocational/Educational Skills and Transition (INVEST) program taught by Holly Gilbert at the Colonie Community Center. Her home district is Schenectady. During her time in the INVEST program, Maria had many work experiences at local business such as Price Chopper supermarket, Boscov's department store, Dunkin' Donuts and Joann Fabrics. Her favorite work experiences were at The Christmas Tree Shop where she worked hard at keeping the store organized and re-shelving merchandise and the Golden Corral where she prepared table settings and replenished condiments. Maria will now attend the Schenectady ARC Life Preparation program at Union Street.

Adam Palmer

This June, Adam graduated with a Regents diploma from the Skills Development (SDII) program taught by Carol Klopotowski at Schalmont High School. His home district is Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.

Ian Pengel

This June, Ian graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Terry Johnson-Valentino at Maywood High School. His home district is Berne-Knox-Westerlo. Ian plans to take a year off after graduation, travel the world and then head to college.

Peter Primeau

Peter PrimeauThis June, Peter graduated from the ICDSII program taught by Jessica Walthers at Page Avenue School in Cohoes. His home district is Rensselaer.

Larry Reed

Larry ReedThis June, Larry graduated from the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) program taught by Christina Loukides at Guilderland High School. Her home district is Troy. While in the BOCES program, Larry also completed two years of coursework in auto services at the Career and Technical School (CTE). He will now pursue work related to auto services.

Brain Snow

This June, Brain graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Thomas McTernan at Colonie Community Center. His home district is East Greenbush. Brian is considering military service and is actively seeking employment.

Michael Stark

This June, Michael graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Kristina Matott at Maywood High School. His home district is Berne-Knox-Westerlo.

Jared Tenace

This June, Jared graduated from the Life Employment Applications Program (LEAP) program taught by Meg Carrick at the Colonie Community Center. His home district is Scotia-Glenville. He will now attend welding school.

Brandon Varian

This June, Brandon graduated from the Skills Development (SDII) program taught by Brent Pierce at Mohonasen High School. His home district is East Greenbush. Brandon will now pursue full-time employment.

Joe Vorce

Joe VorceThis June, Joe graduated from the Social Emotional Development (SEII)/Rebound program at the Career Center at Steinmetz in the Schenectady school district. His home district is Watervliet. While in the BOCES program, Joe also completed the Career and Technical School's (CTE) Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Repair II program. He has enlisted with the United States Marines.

 

Nathan Washburn

This June, Nate graduated with a Regents diploma from the PEP program taught by Anne O'Brien-Teta at Mohonasen High School. His home district is Scotia/Glenville. Nate plans to attend the College of St. Rose in the fall of 2009 and study English and education.

Andrew Wellworth

This June, Andrew graduated with from the Social Emotional Development (SEII) program taught by Kathy Paasch at Niskayuna High School. His home district is Waterliet.

Ashley Wilson

Ashley WilsonThis June, Ashley graduated from the Fundamental Specialized Instruction (FSI)/ College-based Transition Experience taught by George Lorang at the College of St. Rose. Her home district is Watervliet. While in the program, Ashley had work experiences in the college dining hall, Inter-Library Loan office, the education office and at the local Price Chopper supermarket. She has also worked at the campus-based paper recycling project. In addition, Ashley completed modified coursework in college classes such as Curriculum & Instruction for Pupils with Severe Disabilities, Literacy & Literature for Young Children, and Foundations of Early Childhood Education. Ashley is currently pursuing a job working with young children.

Keifer Wilson

This June, Keifer graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Joe Bouchard at Maywood High School. His home district is Shenendehowa. Keifer now plans to attend Hudson Valley Community College and study computer information services.

John Wisenburn

John WisenburnThis June, John graduated with an IEP diploma from the Social Emotional Development (SE) program taught by Robin Gibelius at Niskayuna High School. His home district is East Greenbush. John plans to work for the City of Albany this summer will pursue a position in the food industry this fall.

Michael Wolf

This June, Michael graduated from the Intense Management Needs (IMN) program taught by Kristina Matott at Maywood High School. His home district is Shenedehowa.

Kate Wurestlin

This June, Kate graduated with a Regents diploma from the Skills Development (SDII) program taught by Terri Martucci at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Her home district is Shenendehowa. Kate now plans to attend the BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) and study nursing.
